KOH TAO - GETTING IN
By BUS / TRAIN: The cheapest way to travel to Koh Tao is the joint-tickets sold by various travel agencies in Bangkok as well as the bus companies themselves like Lomprayah. The price starts from 800 BTH and includes a bus ticket for Bangkok-Chumphon + Chumphon-Koh Tao ferry ticket. Usually the best idea is to buy a one-way ticket which provides more flexibility since it’s really easy to buy a return ticket from Koh Tao when it’s needed. Ready-made solutions are available for companies like Lomprayah, Seatran and Songserm, from which the Lomprayah offers the fastest and most comfortable travelling option. Their price is a little bit higher to but many travellers say it’s worth the extra penny. Besides busses, a night train is the other rather cheap option. The train is usually a bit more expensive than the bus but it may offer better sleep. In addition, if you don’t feel like buying a joint-ticket, it is always possible to buy the bus/ train ticket at first and the ferry ticket at Chumphon.
In Koh Tao, there is also a good English-owned travel agency called Island Travel Koh Tao from where one is able to buy all sorts of tickets and ask about timetables.
